What is Pie de la Cuesta?
A strip of land between the Pacific Ocean and Coyuca Lagoon, 25-30 minutes from central Acapulco. On one side, the open sea (strong surf, not for unsupervised kids); on the other, the lagoon (calm, boat trips, mangroves).
In 2024 it was officially designated Barrio Mágico (Magical Neighborhood) by the Acapulco Tourism Secretariat — recognition for an area that keeps its identity instead of becoming generic-tourist.
What to do here:
- Pacific sunsets (Acapulco’s most famous)
- Lagoon and mangrove boat trip (~1-2 hours, ~$300-500 MXN/person depending on group)
- Eat fresh grilled fish at a local palapa (best: Tres Marías, Las Hamacas)
- Kayak or paddleboard on the lagoon
- Water skiing (local operators)
- Walk the beach at sunrise (recommended — sea is rough but the beach is long)
What NOT to do:
- Get into the open sea without caution. Surf is strong, currents exist. The lagoon is for swimming.
- Expect downtown Acapulco’s nightlife. It’s quiet here. For clubs, it’s 30 min by taxi.
How to get here:
- From Acapulco airport (ACA): 45 min taxi (~$700-900 MXN). We help you coordinate trusted taxi.
- From CDMX by air: 1-hour flight + 45 min taxi.
- From CDMX by car: 4-5 hours via the Autopista del Sol.
Why we’re here:
Karina and Alexander have been operating homes in Pie de la Cuesta for years. We watched the area stay authentic while tourism grew elsewhere in Acapulco. That’s why we built the homes here, not in the gold zone. If you’re after a big resort with animation, Pie de la Cuesta isn’t for you. If you’re after a private home on the beach with your people, it is.
